The Man in the Moon

by Amanda Hawkins

The man in the moon is always aware
The things we think that no one sees;
     he sees.
The young lovers frolicking in the park
The mother proudly watching her children play
     He sees it all.
And not just that
He sees the hurt and the hate
The father that walked out on his children
The drug addict that canít find his way home
He sees them too.
In Albrecht Durerís "The Virgin and the Crescent" he saw Mary
     and the son of God lifted up.
He watches over them as he watches over all
And even though he canít intervene, he will always be there
Keeping track of minutes and hours and days
And the things that are seemingly hidden,
He will always know.
